Every time more and more news and articles that I find, confirm that a large percentage of "medical tourists" seek
high quality medical services abroad.
Contrary to the widespread perception that
the tourist is just operating in another country looking for low cost surgery. Furthermore, many of these tourists are seeking medical services beyond cosmetic surgery.
According to a press release found on
Reuters.com on Wednesday the 5th of August in 2009 from London, about 40 percent of British people undergoes surgery outside their country to avoid the waiting lists of the National Health System, according to a study published on Wednesday.
The study revealed that only 10 percent of those "medical tourists" who travel for surgery, do it for cosmetic surgery.
The remaining 90 percent go abroad for medical care and treatments related to eye disorders work, dialysis, orthopedic problems, addictions and cancer treatments.

YourSurgeryAbraod.com, in collaboration with the International Medical Travel Association, surveyed 7,000 people to conduct the study, which also revealed that because of the crisis 40 percent of respondents take into account cheaper treatments abroad, compared with the previous year.
"The 71 per cent of British people in our study use the Internet to find the treatment options available abroad, creating a multimillion-dollar industry," said Adam Nethersole director of YourSurgeryAbroad.com.
The figures showed that if it is not possible to travel, 22 percent of the poppulation prefer to postpone the operation to get in a long waiting list.
The sample showed that about 80 percent of people do not know that, thanks to a European directive on cross-border medicine, patients can be treated in a country of the European Union and make it pay by your Country National Health System.
